Bridging China & Africa (BCA)

The Vision

Bridging China & Africa (BCA) is an organization dedicated to serving Chinese workers who are part of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative in Africa.

Because many of these workers do not speak the local languages and live in separate compounds away from the broader community, significant isolation and misunderstandings can arise between the workers and local residents. BCA exists to stand in that gap—building a literal and spiritual bridge of friendship, community, and understanding.

The BCA Cultural Centre

To address this isolation, BCA operates a vibrant 13-acre Cultural Centre in Kitwe, Zambia.

The centre provides Chinese workers with a welcoming, neutral space to:

  • Orient themselves to their new African home and community.

  • Engage in recreational activities and build genuine cross-cultural friendships.

  • Enjoy high-quality, comforting meals.

Ultimately, the heart of the centre is to introduce these workers not only to new earthly friends, but to the ultimate friend: Jesus Christ.

On-The-Ground Impact

The work in Zambia is growing rapidly. In September 2024, BCA welcomed full-time missionaries Tom & Sarah Chudyk (and family) to the field.

Tom and Sarah carry a profound love for people and work tirelessly to develop deep, meaningful relationships with both the local African community and the Chinese workforce. Through their ministry, a growing number of Chinese workers have come to faith in Jesus Christ, and a new Chinese church is currently being planted right on the grounds of the Cultural Centre.

Our Story & Leadership

BCA was originally co-founded by Rev. Don Mann and Rev. Bill Pipke. Recognizing a profound burden shared by local Zambian pastors for the influx of Chinese workers, the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC) stepped out in faith to purchase the 13-acre property that the Cultural Centre calls home today.

Following Don Mann’s transition out of the ministry, Bill Pipke invited Garry Fess to partner with him in leading this vital global work.

Since 2021, Garry has had the distinct privilege of serving as the Chairman of the BCA Board. A few times each year, Garry travels to Kitwe, Zambia to support the ministry team, visit the property, and witness firsthand what God is doing. Lives are being transformed, and a strong, faithful Christian Chinese community is being formed in Africa. We give all the glory to God!
